Note about SPADES changes

To learn more, please read Broad River Rehab's blog post that details the SPADES, HERE.In this webinar, Broad River Rehab highlights the concepts of Trauma-Informed Care and Health Literacy, which have become increasingly important from both practical and regulatory perspectives.
Soon, facilities will be required to address social determinants of health in the MDS, and health literacy will be addressed in new MDS item set. Trauma-Informed Care was part of the updated conditions of participation requirements, and even though we have no formal interpretive guidance yet, this requirement can still be surveyed and cited.
Throughout the COVID pandemic, these two concepts have come together to form a strategic approach to ongoing health issues that COVID-19 precipitated. This presentation will help you develop a mindset toward integrating these concepts into your daily practice and culture change.

Joel VanEaton, BSN, RN, RAC-CTA, Master Teacher
Joel is the EVP of PAC Regulatory Affairs and Education at Broad River Rehab serving facilities across the nation. Joel began his career in LTC as an MDS coordinator and worked for many years as the Director of Clinical Reimbursement and RAI for a group of nursing facilities across the southeast. Joel has contributed to McKnight’s LTC News and the AAPACN Leader for the NAC. He currently serves on the AAPACN Expert Advisory Panel and as a board member on the AAPACN Education Foundation. Joel presents regularly on all subjects related to the MDS, clinical reimbursement, state and federal regulation.
Renee Kinder, MS, CCC-SLP, RAC-CT
Renee is the EVP of Clinical Services for Broad River Rehab. Additionally, she serves as Gerontology Professional Development Manager for the American Speech Language Hearing Association’s (ASHA) gerontology special interest group, is the ASHA STAMP for Kentucky, a member of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine community faculty, and is an alternate advisor to the American Medical Association’s Relative Value Update Committee (RUC) Health Care Professionals Advisory Committee (HCPAC)
