Attention Simple Clients

CMS made changes to the FY2026 Quality Reporting Program (QRP). Here’s how we’re keeping your data accurate.

We’ve recently received an important update from CMS regarding the FY2026 Quality Reporting Program (QRP) that impacts reporting accuracy for Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs). CMS has identified some discrepancies in their reporting, specifically related to the coding of discharge goals in sections GG0130 (Self-care) and GG0170 (Mobility).

What you need to know

For the FY2026 QRP compliance determination (which uses QRP stays from Jan. 1, 2024 – Dec. 31, 2024), SNFs are no longer required to code at least one discharge goal for GG0130 or GG0170. However, CMS is still in the process of updating their system. This means:

  1. SNFs will continue to receive a warning on their Final Validation Report if an MDS is submitted without these discharge goals. This warning can be safely ignored, and assessments can be submitted without issue.
  2. The Provider Threshold Report published by CMS will still flag missing discharge goals until January 2025, even though they are no longer necessary for FY2026.

How Simple keeps your data accurate

Since QRP modification deadlines require providers to correct errors well before CMS reports are updated, we’ve already updated the QRP Compliance report in SimpleAnalyzer™ to align with the correct requirements. Our report reflects the removal of the discharge goal requirement, ensuring your compliance numbers for the FY2026 APU determination are accurate and up-to-date.

This does, however, mean there may be a discrepancy between our QRP Compliance report and the CMS Provider Threshold Report until CMS updates their logic in January 2025. Rest assured, our numbers already use the correct logic, and you can trust Simple to give you a true reflection of your compliance.

What to do next

Continue using the SimpleAnalyzer QRP Compliance report to accurately track your compliance percentage. We also recommend cross-checking your numbers with the CMS Provider Threshold Report after January 2025, once CMS aligns their logic with the current requirements.

You’ll also notice an alert banner on the SimpleAnalyzer™ QRP Compliance report page, which includes a link to this blog post. You can use this to train other members of your team on this important change.
