In 2015, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued its first rules for a new Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ) reporting requirement for skilled nursing facilities. A few months later, seeing the heavy burden that PBJ regulations would place on SNFs, a small startup company in Rochester, New York created a first-of-its-kind software tool for simplifying PBJ compliance.

Launched in early 2016, ezPBJ™ allowed SNFs to assemble, validate and submit CMS-required PBJ reports with minimal effort. Word of the powerful new tool spread quickly and SNFs across the country soon adopted it. In 2018, Briggs Healthcare acquired ezPBJ™ to bring PBJ solutions to its customer base of thousands of long-term care providers. Alongside SimpleLTC, which Briggs acquired in 2016, this meant that many more SNFs would have access to simple and powerful tools for managing CMS compliance and data analytics. 

The new name: SimplePBJ™

As long-term care has continued to evolve, ezPBJ­™ has evolved with it. Hundreds of new features have been added, including streamlined CMS connectivity, enhanced Five-Star predictive tools, simplified data dashboards, expanded error checks, and up-to-the-minute Five-Star calculations. The ezPBJ customer base now includes thousands of SNFs across all 50 states. 

Alongside SimpleLTC software, ezPBJ users now have access to the most predictive and complete software solution for the changing PBJ regulatory landscape. 

With the close integration between ezPBJ and SimpleLTC, we felt it was time for a new name. So we’re transitioning the ezPBJ™ name to SimplePBJ™. Soon you’ll see the new SimplePBJ™ name on invoices, product sheets and within the product itself. What won’t change is our ongoing commitment to provide you with incredible software and outstanding support.
