Still settling in: Continued impact of new case-mix HRD calculations
Just like so many things in the long-term care industry, sometimes it takes some time to adjust to big changes. The new PDPM Case-Mix HRD calculation methodology is no different. Following its debut in July, the new way that CMS calculates the Case-Mix HRD continues to define the new normal of Five-Star staffing measures in its release in the October Five-Star Reports
The updated method impacts two critical values used in the Adjusted HRD formula: the facility-level Case-Mix HRD and the National Average Case-Mix HRD

New check for excessively low weekend staffing
Simulating the algorithm that CMS uses in the 1705D Report, SimplePBJ now alerts subscribers to any auditable issues with their weekend staffing levels.

Simple has launched a new, HIPAA-compliant user portal for submitting support requests called NetsmartCONNECT. Please note: Simple’s PBJ support team can only be contacted through NetsmartCONNECT or via phone.
Important! If you have not created a NetsmartCONNECT account yet, check out the training video and other resources here: NetsmartCONNECT for Simple clients. This user portal is the only way to see support case updates, so creating an account ahead of the PBJ deadline can help you save time. Time marches on: Updated look-back period
Five-Star Reports for October, November, and December 2024 will use the look-back period of January 2023 – June 2024 for PBJ turnover calculations.
