October findings were both fascinating and comparatively confounding relative to the RUG-system. Every Component array raised questions and displayed coding inconsistencies. The only fact that didn’t surprise us was that there were many surprises. One thing is clear; “Average Medicare Rate” is no longer an adequate stand-alone measure of reimbursement performance; our analysis proves the need for a standardized metric for assessing provider outcomes.
